Wilderness Films stages "Himalayan Vignettes" series of photography exhibitions

January through March, 2010: Wilderness Films India held a series of photography exhibitions with the theme of "Himalayan Vignettes" in New Delhi. The first exhibition was held at the Claridges Hotel in Surajkund, in end January and early February. It was inaugurated with a wine and cheese cocktail on the 30th of January, hosted by Claridges Hotel.

The second exhibition was held at the central atrium of the Select CITYWALK Mall in Saket, New Delhi. The Select CITYWALK is India's largest mall and has been voted the best mall in India, as well. Visited by more than 35,000 people, the exhibition was a great success. Over 35 custom prints were displayed from the 750,000 strong stills archive of WFIL, comprising largely images of rare Himalayan vistas and flora.

The third exhibition, on the 6th of March, 2010, was held at the Slovak Embassy, as part of the Earth Foundation's "Rays of Hope for the Girl Child." Wilderness Films India offered on auction a large 28" X 32" limited edition custom print for a starting bid of Rs. 50,000, with the aim of raising funds for the Girl Child initiative of the Earth Foundation. Other participants at the initiative includes Ambassadors and their wives from many countries, at a fashion show organized to raise funds for the same cause. These included Mrs. Sally Roemer, wife of the US Ambassador, Mrs. Ulla Matussek, wife of the German Ambassador, and Mme Romina Pappalardo, wife of the Ambassador of Paraguay. Various fashion designers from India contributed their work to dress the participants of the fashion show.

(It may be noted that Wilderness Films India had earlier hosted an exclusive concert at the Wilderness Orchard in New Delhi, on the 13th of October 2009, along with Mr. Genaro Pappalardo and the Embassy of Paraguay, with a scintillating performance by the virtuoso Berta Rojas, one of the best guitarists in the world. She played a collection of works by Agustín Barrios Mangoré. On that date, we also had a fantastic impromptu concert by a trio of Dartmouth College students with Fred Meyer on the keyboard, Julia DeWahl contributing her vocals and Taylor Thompson on the saxophone.)

Invite to the exhibition in Saket

Text of the invitation to the CITYWALK exhibition:

Himalayan Vignettes showing at Select CITYWALK
After a lengthy period of urban hibernation (despite no slow-down in wilderness visits!), we are displaying our favourites in the form of a collection of some wide-ranging Himalayan imagery from our large collection of stills here at Wilderness Films India Ltd.

This distillation from over 25 years of Himalayan travels to the remotest and most exciting mountain arenas in India, is not just available for display. One can also acquire a limited edition custom print in a chosen size, for home or office display.

35% of the revenues from this exhibition will contribute to the Himalayan conservation work undertaken by Wilderness Films, at our Mountain Quail Rediscovery project site at Jabbarkhet Estate in Uttarakhand. Each print sold will be able to safeguard five Himalayan trees for the next fifty years, thus turning this entire effort carbon negative, through the sequestration involved.

The exhibit will be on at the Central Atrium of the Select CITYWALK Mall in Saket from the 6th of February until the evening of the 9th of February. Do try and have a look at the display, time and traffic permitting, and you should be treated to some fabulous Himalayan vistas...

Sincerely,
Rupin
